Learning disabilities

Every journey with us starts with a conversation. Not a checklist, not a form, but a real conversation with you. We sit down together, listen to your hopes, understand your challenges, and ask the most important question: "What does a good life look like for you?" From that moment, everything we do is built around your vision.

Independence

We believe that having a learning disability should never be a barrier to living independently, forming meaningful relationships, or achieving the things that matter to you. That belief is at the heart of how we support you.

Our homes and supported living services are safe, warm, and welcoming places where you’ll be known, respected, and supported to thrive. You’ll be helped to cook your own meals, manage your routines, budget your money, and explore your local community. You might join a group, try a new activity, go on trips, or just enjoy doing what you love at your own pace, in your own way.

Our Support

Our staff are here because they care, and they’re trained to support you in a way that works for you. We understand that behaviour is communication. We take time to learn how you express yourself, what makes you feel calm and safe, and what support you need to grow in confidence. We celebrate every step forward no matter how big or small.

As the CQC put it in our Outstanding report, "Staff interactions were warm, respectful and promoted choice. People told us they felt listened to."

We stay up to date with the best ways to support you. Our staff are trained regularly in communication, safeguarding, behaviour support, and understanding risk in a positive way. We check in with you, your family, and your support team often to make sure everything is working for you and we adjust things when needed.

We’re proud that our work has been recognised as Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission. Inspectors saw that people we support aren’t just being looked after—they’re shaping their own futures. They said, "Staff go above and beyond to ensure people enjoy varied and chosen experiences."

There’s no one-size-fits-all approach here. We know that learning disabilities are unique, just like your goals and dreams. What never changes is our commitment to you: to treat you with dignity, to support your independence, and to walk alongside you as you lead your own life.

At Guyatt House Care, you won’t be defined by your disability. You’ll be seen, heard, supported and most importantly, empowered. When you grow, achieve, and shine, we’re here to cheer you on every step of the way.
